"Hi Guys,

"Hi Guys,

I have a 2005 90hp 2 stroke Johnson that I am having an alarm issue with.

This past season I had the motor to the mechanic's to fix a faulty tachometer. The mechanic discovered that the wiring harness was not wired correctly, most likely due to when another mechanic installed the motor on my boat and had to dis-assemble the harness to get it chased under the deck of my boat.

They got the tachometer working, but now a new problem has begun. Ever since the tach has been "fixed", I get a warning alarm at idle position or just barely in forward gear only. As soon as I throttle up the alarm stops sounding, and motor runs great.

Now here is the weird part. The audible alarm is the long, continuous beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, which I understand to be the alarm for overheat. But, the "No Oil" light is what lights up with this alarm on the multifunction tach.

So any ideas as to cause? I'm thinking it has to be something electrical with that harness. Someone also mentioned to me that they had a similar issue, and it ended up being two wires in the throttle that had come loose a bit and were rubbing, causing a short while in the neutral throttle position.

The No Oil light with the Overheat audible alarm has me thinking the wiring is screwed up somewhere...

I do have the "OMS" (newer version of the VRO) pump hooked up and it seems to be working just fine. The motor is certainly using oil and I did empty the oil reserve and check the filter sock and for water, which were both fine.

Anything I can be looking for in your experiences?

ANY suggestions much appreciated. I CANNOT go thru another season with that alarm coming on at idle or low throttle - drives me nuts! If I can't fix it myself (likely), I would at least like to have some ideas to suggest to the mechanic.

Thanks!

Dave"

"ur description,of the way the eng alarms activate at speeds, are consistent w/air in oil line, bad oil line connections ,bad circuitry on oms,or failing oms pump.,plugged oil filter sock,in tank, kink in line....however,ur tone,is not correct for that signal...w/ur scenario,i would only suggest that all wires be traced for proper connection, after that,..i would suspect bad elect connections, bad tach,..or bad electrics on oms pump....i would also, run an oil consumption test on that pump....ur electrics might be indicative,of a larger problem to come..when was the last time u had the oiling system, serviced?"

Thanks very much for the input. This type of work surpasses my capabilities as a DIY'r, so this is quite valuable for me to bring to the mechanic along with the motor. Much appreciated!
