Hi- I recently bought a boat with a 2005 Johnson 30 J30ELSOD that was missing the cam/shaft assembly for the tilt lock (part #62 in the midsection diagram). I bought the replacement part, as well as a copy of the service manual. However, there's absolutely nothing in the manual that talks about the proper way to install this part.
The end of this part has a half-lap, as does the part that comes in from the opposite side. I thought they might overlap each other and form a "complete cylinder" when the laps met and overlapped. That doesn't seem to be the case. I can't get any clues from the exploded diagram as to how this is captured. Right now, I can slide it through its bushing and tap it flush. But it vibrates itself loose as soon as I start up the motor.
Can anyone give me some advice as to how this part is properly installed. I can provide pictures if helpful.
