2005 90 HP Stalls Out During Idle

Engine will start up with no problems. Also runs fine on top end. Sometimes it will stall out when at idle. I can push the key in and sometimes it will prevent the engine from stalling. I'm not sure why pushing in the key will prevent stall unless it gives it extra gas. What is a good troubleshooting procedure to identify this problem source?
 
Pushing the key in activates the fuel primer / enriching unit.-----------------It would seem you have a fuel problem.-----------Water in the fuel ???--------------Idle speed set too low ???.-------------Carburetor adjustment on the lean side ???--------------------Old fuel from last year perhaps ???----------------------4 stroke / 2 stroke and a model # perhaps !!
 
Engine is a 2 stroke with carbs (Bombardier Mfg) but I can't make out the model number since it's no longer readable on the label. There is some gas from last year although I added stabilizer, Startron and also added an equal amount of new gas this year. Check bottom of gas tank and no water. The tach reads 1000 rpm when idle is good. I was told by the dealer that these engines must be in the water (i.e. not on garden hose) for them to idle properly. This is a new one on me since my priopr Evinrude for 17 years didn't operate this way.
 
Your dealer is not wrong.------------------------The best way to find out is with the motor ( exhaust housing ) submerged and floating.---------------------Try new fuel and let it run for 15 minutes.
 
I have the same motor and have been dealing with the same problem for a couple of years.

I finally am taking the motor in this coming Saturday to a very knowledgeable marine mechanic. I actually had a significant fuel leak occur this weekend out of the fuel pump / gaskets that put me over the top. Ah, couldn't have happened at a better time!

My very experienced mechanic states that in general, this model motor is known to have issues with the carbs due to the design, and use of plastic parts that can warp, leak, etc. over time. In my case the gaskets are now leaking in a couple of places. The valves and seals / gaskets in and around the carbs are notorious for failing on these motors. Wish I knew that before I bought it! Mechanic says that if the repairman knows what he's doing, it's not that difficult to troubleshoot and repair, but I think it's a pro's job for sure.

Good luck - I will let you know what falls out of my repair in terms of what they had to do to get it running well. The stalling out at idle is such a pain in the a$$...
