"I have a 90 hp e tec that I got for virtually nothing. It is on it's 2nd powerhead and the total time is 328 hours. He was running the XD100(still has a full tank). It has a seized #2 piston that was caused by(tech says) failed injector. Looking through other boards it seems if the injector fails it leaks gas into cylinder breaking up oil film on liner wall, resulting in friction/heat expanding piston until it seizes. The tech condemned the block, told previous owner it was $6000 for a new powerhead. I have honed it for an hour or so and it looks pretty good. Questions
#1 How much do you think I could have taken off by honing with a med/fine hone in an hour?, should I go with stock piston or oversize?
#2 Is it possible to rebuild the injector? as they cost $600 new.
#3 Should I just part it out? as I can get $1000 for the jet unit alone, never mind e bay all the other expensive s#%t all around it. Thanks

youll need a cylinder bore gau

youll need a cylinder bore gauge to measure how much you took off and for out of roundness...youll need to measure in about 6 different places throughout the cyl to be sure

i oversized a 250 2 stroke 4 wheeler with a hone and some oil and it took about an hour to go 30 over

"You are probably right, let someone who knows what they are doing, do it!.Here is a pic of the top cylinder and bottom one looks the same, like not enough oil, hopefully you can see the hot spots.

"bore it out,or re-sleeve it,and rebuild it...new pistons thru out,...new INJECTORS<>.a rebuilt emm from DFI"

"Got the block back from the machine shop, he said to go with stock piston(s), he would put all 3 fresh pistons in b/c there was about.010 clearance between, liner (3.601) and pistons, he thought a 2 stroke should be more like .040. Looking at the other pistons, I can see 1-2 spots where they have scuffed, but basically they are like new. What do yo guys think?"

have you already purchased pis

have you already purchased pistons?

i like wiseco pistons for 2 strokes personally.

what did the machinist say bout your old pistons? i would value his opinion on the condition of your old pistons.

wiseco pistons are a little more expensive but they hold in abusive situations.....the one i took out of my 250 quadracer was galded then i did the oversize and rode the **** out of it and didnt have anymore probs....till the head got a small crack from too little antifreeze...but the piston was still in great shape!

p.s. it may have been 40 over its been 10 years since i did my home boring project the thing i remeber most is it took forever.....since then ive gotten a little wiser about doing my own machine work even though ive gotten lucky a few times....yep thought i new it all----if i only knew half as much now as i thought i did then...well you get the idea

I doubt You may get E-tech pis

I doubt You may get E-tech pistons and sleeves on the after market.
There are quite some differences in alloys from the old conventional ones.
That is why they may have the considerable 'no-oil but drive home' time.

"Wiseco doesn't have anyth

"Wiseco doesn't have anything for these engines yet, the factory piston/rings are $107, Cheap compared to the $600 injectors."
