"I have a 2005 90HP TLR2 2-Stroke that runs violently above 2,000 or so RPM's. I took it out of storage last year after it was winterized and on the water I went to throttle up and the motor began to shake and bounce above 2,000 rpm. I took it to the place that winterized it and they said it was the oil level sensor. It apparently had melted partially causing the low oil warning to come on (there was no buzzer). This fixed the problem for about 1 1/2 months and it began to do it again. I looked at the sensor and it was intact and not melted. It randomly stopped and I've had no problems since. Any ides? The service tech sure didn't have any, they thought maybe the controls were an issue."
