2005 60 mercury 4 stroke

I was on the lake motor was fine I **** it down to swim. When I tried to start it back up it would crank but wouldn't start. I have it at a shop but the guy is shady I found out after the fact. He is trying to say it's the computer and will cost thousand or more and is trying to sell me a new one. Any ideas other than the computer?
