"I have the Rinda scan tool and a Seloc manual but can not find descriptions to my faults. I get the following codes: 37 BLK PSI LO, 94 PITOT CKT LO, 75 FUEL LVL CKT HI, and 130 TRIM CKT HI. The engine will turn over and fire up for just a second and die. I have good fuel pressure and spark. I noticed looking at the sensor values the manifold air temp shows 254 degrees - but the ECM is not faulting it. Also I get the two beep alert tones. **2005 5.0 MPI w/alpha drive eng s/n OW327906** Any techs out there with some detailed info on this? Thanks, Scott"

"Scott, I am not a tech, with that disclaimer,
pretty sure 94 PITOT CKT LO, 75 FUEL LVL CKT HI, and 130 TRIM CKT HI. are codes that come up because there optional sensors that are not installed in the boat.
there is a scan for when its running and a scan for stored codes.

hope this link helps

"Thanks, The link is exactly what comes with the scan tool. I was thinking optional equipment also but am not sure. The ECM 555 Diagnostic manual never mentions any fault code numbers, so I wonder if Rinda assigns them or what? As far as the Pitot fault how does the ECM know it is bad? My understanding of the pitot (speedometer) is a purely mechanical system with water pressure to speedo head."

"If we are talking merc, MOST mercs don't have a pito tube, thats a volvo thing, mercs have a hole in the out drive that goes to the speedo. most ecm's only record rpm, hours run at diff. rpm's plus how much wot you do. I believe with the new square smart craft set up,there is an added fuel flow sensor that calcs. gph and speed so you know at 3500 rpm,38mph your using say 10 gph of fuel ect.

call rinda monday and ask them for sure, hopefully a tech can send you a cheat sheet."

"as far as the original starting problem,I would do a fuel sample and see if there is water in the fuel,
mpi's hate water and air in the fuel mix.
make sure you de-pressureize the system."

I did a fuel pressure test that was good but never took a fuel sample and sure enough I have some water and "other" contamination in the fuel. I am now in the process of flushing the tank and lines. Thanks.

"Well the fuel is clean but still no start. I found a bad MAPT is causing the no start. If unplugged the motor starts right up. As far as the other codes, I will file away as optional equipment I don't have. Thanks, Scott"

"get yourself some marine grad

"get yourself some marine grade sta-bil with ethanol treatment, add it when ever you fill up,think its 1 oz. to every 10 gal. gas, then you double it in the winter for for storage ( if that applies.)
good luck."
