2005 50 hp 4 stroke bigfoot

I never had any problems with this engine until late last season. The engine would stall out soon after going out. I would have to pump the gas ball to get it going again. I found that if I "pumped" the ball prior to setting out it worked better. This season it was the same. I replaced the gas line from the tank to the engine, and I replaced the fuel pump. Now the engine starts for a second and then stalls. It seems like it is not getting gas. The "ball" does not get hard. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Which fuel pump did you change.?
The high pressure electric one or the lift pump. ?

If you have to squeeze the bulb to keep it running. I would say your lift pump is not working or the fuel lines are incorrectly hooked up.
 
Given your symptoms, I would attach a fuel pressure gauge to the high pressure side of the VST and see if your pressures for you fuel injection system are correct.....since you already replaced the low pressure fuel pump, and I assume you have NO air leaks in your fuel system. Also, check the high pressure filter. You'll probably have to remove the center cowling, but that's no big deal. When this happened to me, my VST was contaminated from ethanol which caused the screen on the high pressure fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator to be clogged (after I replaced the low pressure fuel pump and all of my lines), and a bunch of trash in the VST itself. Get a Shop Service Manual. It's really good a explaining all of the components and how they interact. I have a post on here from my journey in fuel flow on my 40 efi 4 stroke. I am a novice at engine repair. I changed the pump in the back of the engine(High pressure electric)? Thank you for your help
