Ok, new plugs, filter oil check valve and rebuilt the carbs. It starts fine and idles ok. A little rough at idle though. Have had it in the shop twice now - first after the carb rebuild and they notice a split fuel line. Took it fishing and it ran terrible through the mid range. Took it back and this time they notice a fuel line was interfering with the throttle. Took it out again and and it started great idle still just a little rough and we went for a run. It came out of the hole good and I thought for sure the mech had figured out the problem Ran it WOT until I throttle back some and then realized upon the next throttle up it was rough again through the mid range.
Ran it to WOT and getting about 5300- 5400 RPM and really pretty smooth, but the odd thing is I have to trim the 21' Crestliner Sportfish up all the way to get it to those RPM's. I have never had to run it at full up (won't go further at full throttle). When I trim down I notice less power, but still running smoothly. Honestly I used to get 5600 - 5700 RPMs and realized this only as I trimmed up but never all the way.
So what to look for. The boat feels heavy but no water in it. Trimming never really cause the motor to react like it does now. Not sure what to look for next, but wonder about water int he fuel. I run premium non ethanol but now I am gettign that 50 gallons run down to finally finish off the tank if it had water in it. I always use Mercury fuel additive with each fill up.
Any advice would help.
