Hi,
Bought this motor in 2004 and used it for three years. Put it away in 2007. Drained the carbs. Fogged the engine. Fogged the engine a few years later again. Anyway didn't use it until yesterday after about 8 years (stored indoors). Stupid me didn't try and start the engine until the boat was in the water. Started hard but did seem to go ok for a little.

After about 30 minutes it stalled and wouldn't start. Got towed to a beach and pulled the plugs. Very flooded. After messing with it for an hour got it running and got back. First thought was carbs were all gummed up. Floats stuck and God knows what else. Went through an abnormal amount of fuel and oil.

Took all three carbs off tonight. Top carb pristine just like a brand new engine.

Middle carb had a very small black spot on each side of the bottom of the float and correspondingly on the bowl cover also. Possibly stuck float but not sure.

Bottom carb had a lot of black stuff and float clearly was stuck. I thought I had drained it but maybe not. Anyway I'm sure cleaning the carbs will solve this.

Just wondering if I did any engine damage flooding with gas like that. I learned my lesson on this one.

Are there any tricks or tips for the carbs when you put an engine in storage? That bottom bowl cover drain screw is very hard to get to.

For long-term storage, we usually drain the entire fuel system: tank, primer, lines, pump and carbs.
