The last couple times I have taken my boat out I have had a couple occurences where the starter will keep churning once the boat is running. The only way to turn it off is to disconnect the battery. the first time i did that and reconnected the battery terminals everything was fine. The second time i did this and went to re connect the battery, the boat try turning over again even though the ignition switch was not on. As soon as the terminal made contact it literally was trying to start the boat and again once the boat started, it took forever to get the started to stop. Is this a switch issue or is something getting stuck in the starter? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading.

It may be the starter solenoid's internal contactors welding together...$35 part. Wack the side of the solenoid 3-4 times w/a screw driver handle like knocking on someone's door. Look at the wiring on the back of the keyswitch to make sure none are shorting together.

Thanks guyjg for the input. I was figuring the solenoid was part of the problem. Any other ideas out there? Id like to have a good idea of what this could be before I go to the shop???

Agree on welding. However, for an '04 model engine you must have used the starter a lot. Really there is nothing else in the circuit. The battery voltage gets to the starter to energize it via the energized contacts of the solenoid. When you release the key the switch is supposed to open removing voltage to the starter. If the contacts are welded due to heavy use and pitting, it can't release and the starter continues to spin.
