2004 Johnson 175hp TrimTilt stopped working

"Hello Everyone.. I trailered

"Hello Everyone.. I trailered my boat home last night and trimmed up the engine, when I went to trim it up to pull the trailer bar back it stopped working? The throttle and switch on the back still "click" the Relay's. I find it hard to believe the both relay's would go bad, so I replaced one and it still does nothing. I just bought the boat, so I cleaned all battery terminals and charged batteries. Cleaning the terminals did not change anything, however when I looked at the female ends of the relay's there
was some corrosion on them. Is there any way to clean them or could this be my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I want to go fishing!!"

"First thing to do would be to

"First thing to do would be to check the electric motor itself. Trace the wires from the electric motor back to its connector and disconnect them.

Run jumper wires from the battery to those electric motor wires. If the unit now operates, the problem would be a corroded or broken terminal, usually within the relay box assembly.

let us know what you find."

"Thanks Joe.. Is there a easy

"Thanks Joe.. Is there a easy way to describe how to run jumper wires. I just ordered the service manual, will this help trouble-shoot this problem. How can I clean the inside of where the relay's plug into. This is where I saw most of the corrosion?? Thanks again!!!"

"The jumper wires that I menti

"The jumper wires that I mention are simply smaller gauge wires such as wires that might be 3/16" or 1/8" in diameter (including insulation) that would have aligator clips on each of their ends.

One end of the jumper wires would attach to the battery terminals or their related connections at the engine (starter solenoid and ground connection), with the other end of the jumper wires attached to whatever one would want to test."

"Hi Joe, Thanks for the quick

"Hi Joe, Thanks for the quick response! I did not try the jumpers yet, however I hooked up the batteries after charging and cleaned all connections-Still nothing. Still trying to picture the jumper test. I would hook up a positive and neg from the battery(aligator clips)and hook the other end(ground)to(starter, solenoid/ground connection) the positive from the battery would go to the Green or Blue wire going to the motor-over sheathing??? This is where I lost you!! My reason for this is the connections coming to the relay's are two female ends that click together. Last... Is it common for the motor to quit after 60-80hrs on engine.. I know there is no answer, but just curious-with your experience.

Thanks Again..."

"Making it easy..... Simply ha

"Making it easy..... Simply have two long wires with aligator clips on the ends.

Connect one jumper wire to the positive battery terminal, and the other jumper wire to the negative battery terminal.

Disaconnect the electric PTT motor at its connector. Now, connect those jumper wires to those two PTT electric wires that lead to the electric motor.

If the PTT electric motor is okay, that should make it run in one direction orthe other. Reversing those jumper wires would make it run in the opposite direction."

"Thanks Joe.. I actually found

"Thanks Joe.. I actually found a retired omc certified guy who does work on the side to check out my tilt/trim issue. He had a set of the cables like you mentioned above and when we hooked them up the motor still did not move, a tap with a hammer and it went up...go figure! It looks like I'll be replaceing the trim motor next year. Still working fine for winterizing. Thank you for the help, Best part he came to my house and only charged me $40.00 I now have a new mechanic."
