2004 fOURWINNS 170 OVERHEATING

Hi am hoping for some advice.
I have a 2004 Fourwinns 170 with a Volvo Penta 3.0l. I have an overheating pproblem.I have replaced the impeller and the thermostat.Have also checked the riser and manifold etc. When running on the flush hose it runs fine at 175 degrees but in the water it soon overheats.it seems as though the pump is not drawing in enough cooling water. Any ideas as all I can think of is an air leak in a hose allowing air th be drawn in.
Steve.

Hi there.

One thing you may want to try is to seal the water intake grids in the outdrive with duct tape, then pressurize the whole line from the raw water pump suction side say with a garden hose. If there is an point where air is being sucked you will see water coming through it.

Was thinking along those lines thanks. It must be either blocked or have an air leak as pushing the flush muff tight against the leg makes the cooling better but of course you are forcing water through on the hose rather than pulling it with the raw water pump which is less efficient.

Thanks will let you know.
