Hey brains trust! 
I've just recently purchased my first tinny and it came with a 2004 Merc 40hp EFI.
I took the boat out for the first time over the weekend and I've got 2 issued that may be related.
1. Exhaust is quite loud only on higher rpm ranges (>2500rp)
2. Long continued Warning Beep once I get over 4000RPM, which I then lower rpm to about idle and it stops.
When I did a engine flush at home after the trip I noticed that the exhaust was coming out of the Relief port rather from then prop.
The motor pees while being flushed and on the water, (I haven't check if it struggles at high rpm) I've been a bit nervous to raise rpm while flushing.
I pulled the lower cowling off to check for any corrosion/holes that would cause an exhaust leak with everything looking good.
I then removed the lower unit and found corrosion in the Driveshaft housing next to the exhaust tube(pictured).
My next step is going to be do a service (oils, filters, plugs, thermostat and impeller). I'm considering using JB weld (extreme temp) to see if this fixes the loud exhaust issues.
Does anyone have any idea if the Warning Beep is related to the exhaust leak and would a JB weld repair to that hole be sufficient?
