2004 150 HP Evinrude...Throttle Question...

I have a 150HP Evinrude (2004) and I can't seem to find neutral. Once in gear, it is very tough to find neutral again....sometimes I go directly into reverse, then back into forward and will finally find it. Everything seems to be tight on the throttle box, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Has this engine shifted properly in the past..... and if so, what has been done to the engine since that time in the past?
