2004 115 4 stroke conversion from xl to long shaft.

I have a 2004 115hp 4 stroke XL shaft that I want to convert to a long shaft...can I accomplish this by using the parts for the long shaft and removing the spacer plate . The parts I believe I need to do this are the drive shaft, the water tube and the shift shaft. If I am missing anything please help! Thanks
