" After first 10 hrs.....spitting and sputtering at idle....wanting to cut off.....had adjusted at 30 hrs....no change, now 100 hrs, and still same....sounds like roughest idleing motor at the docks....sporatically revving up and dropping back.....any ideas?? "

" isnt it still under warranty

" isnt it still under warranty ?

if you mess with it yourself there is a chance that your warranty will void itself .

i know this doesnt relate to the topic , but i would take it to a dealer .

good luck ! "

" I have taken to the dealer o

" I have taken to the dealer once already. I met a guy out on the lake a few weeks ago. He heard my motor, and said he had the same thing. Took it to my dealer twice, and no luck. Recommended another dealer who had a seasoned Mercury Pro, apparently one that knows what he is doing. I'll likely give this guy a try. Thanks. "

Jbird...I "assume" yo

Jbird...I "assume" your dealer knows what he's doing. These motors from my experiences are naturally rough idling engines. All I can suggest is make sure the timing and syncronising is done properly which means it should be set in the water if possible...DJ

" I have a 2000 90 merc and it

" I have a 2000 90 merc and it is the same. 2 of my work mates have them as well, also the same. Mine runs roughest once in gear but still idling. Service agent recommended changing stainless prop for aluminium as the stainless prop is the same weight as the flywheel, causing an imbalance. Also he said the other problem is that it is a 3 cylinder motor, which is not a balanced set up like a 4 cylinder. My motor goes well though. And yes you are right. They don't sound pretty, especially when other boaties are around. "
