"I took a sea trial on 21ft sea fox, it has a 2003 Johnson 150 on it. It started fine and idled fine, but when in gear at idle till about 1300 rpm it almost felt like a miss. It cleared up and ran great plenty of power. I have had a shamrock for 5 years and not use to a outboard. Is this a normal condition, any info would be great."

"Assuming compression and spar

"Assuming compression and spark are as they should be (you did check that area?).......

That spitting back condition is usually caused by slightly fouled carburetors (running lean).

With the carburetor face plate removed (assuming that engine has carburetors), and that condition prevailing, stick two fingers into the carburetor throats one at a time of course. When/if the engine smooths out, you've found the offending carburetor.

I say assuming it has carburetors due to the fact that I retired before that engine was manufactured and I'm not sure of its design."

"I didn't check compressio

"I didn't check compression, it was first time I looked at the boat. I will go back and check it if we can come a good price, it is a private seller. It is carburetors with only 146 hours on the boat, the hour meter looks like its been there since new. Are the carbs just dirty or is it more serious."

"If it's carburetorsa, it&

"If it's carburetorsa, it's usually just a matter of cleaning and installing new kits."

"Test no 1 on a two stoke is i

"Test no 1 on a two stoke is idle. If that gives problem, stay away, You never know what may be the reason. It might be as 'easy' as a carb job, but that engine is slightly more complicated than the older ones. vapor chamber with vapor pump, seperated carbs and throtle valves, o-rings and no gaskets that MUST be replaced if dismantled etc. Have the seller fix the engine first."
