2003 BF 225 not starting...

I have a 2003 BF 225 with about 750 hours on it and started having trouble trying to start it up since yesterday. I first thought maybe the starter went bad so i went and checked it and it has power to the leads.

The batteries(Optima 31 2x) are fully charged but when I turn the ignition and try to crank the engine it doesn't drop the voltage in the batteries and the engine doesn't start.

None of the fuses are blown. I checked the 10A fuse that protects the ignition switch.

I can hear the fuel pump kick on but now I have no clue what else to do!?? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Re: BF 225 not starting...

Check your neutral safety switch and lanyard (if equipped). If you turn the key and get nothing, that is where you want to start after you have made sure the batteries are fully charged.

Re: BF 225 not starting...

What am I looking for when trying to figure out the neutral safety switch is the problem? It is a top/console mount throttle. Is it possible to bypass the neutral safety switch or is it hard to replace it if necessary? Is it possible that it's not running the slave solenoid in the throttle not allowing me to crank? I just want to go fishing for Pete's sake!

Thanks again,
Zo

Re: BF 225 not starting...

You can bypass the neutral safety in the shifter by connecting the yellow/orange and the yellow/orange wires together. Only do this to test the switch. Do not bypass it permanently.

Re: BF 225 not starting...

The current Honda shifters do not have the neutral safety switch in the shifter.

The neutral safety switch is located on the motor at the forward center part of the engine hidden behind the fuel/water separator.

Typical cause for it not to work, other than a failure, is the shift linkage is out of adjustment.

Re: BF 225 not starting...

The S type control (which is actually being made by Teleflex and is of lessor quality than the Honda Premium shifters) does have them but they should not be connected unless the motor does not have a neutral safety switch. It is also not going to be distributed from Honda any more once they are all out of stock.
