Hello. I am new to this Forum and have tried the search function with no luck.
My 9.9 quit pumping water and overheated but it still starts and runs great.
I replaced the water pump with a rebuild kit twice and took it to the shop twice and it will not pump water.
This is the trouble shooting I have done. I removed the foot and then attached a hose to the copper tube running up the leg to the power head. I the applied low pressure water and the water came out of the tell tale as well as the exhaust as it should and no blockages.
I then put the foot in a bucket of water level with the water pump. I put a 3 foot hose on the output of the pump and ran a drill clockwise on the drive shaft. The pump worked fine even at very low RPMs.
Then I attached the hose from the pump to the copper tube leaving the foot detached from the leg. Nice tight fit on the hose and ran the drill clockwise at varying speeds. The pump worked fine at all speeds with water coming out of the tell tale and the exhaust as it should.
I then bolted the foot back on the leg ensuring the copper tube is in the grommet on the pump. I put the motor in a large garbage can full of water with the water well above the pump. Nope, nada, nothing. There is air being pumped out of the tell tale with quite a bit of pressure. I did this whole thing 10 times with the same result each time.
I was thinking it is air locking but if it did that it wouldn't pump air either.
Any My I did remove the thermostat for trouble shooting.
Any help appreciated, Clark
