I recently replaced the water pump on my 2003* 15HP Mercury 2-stroke outboard (Model 1015201AD) using a water pump kit and a repair manual. However, the new water pump leaks.
On the water pump cover, it seems that there's a place for an o-ring between the cover and the base, but the kit I purchased did not come with an o-ring, nor was there an o-ring in the pump originally. There also isn't an o-ring marked in this spot on any of the part diagrams.
The manual I purchased, though, has instructions for installing an o-ring in the water pump repair section. Is an o-ring needed for this water pump, or is there another problem?
