Sucked up a bunch of mud last winter and it went into limp mode for the first time ever (I assume it got hot) shut it off and restarted it and it ran fine.

I ran it in the yard today, had it at a high idle for a while and notice it sounded funny after while, tried to rev it up and it would spit and miss (limp mode). Strong stream out of the tell tail (pee stream) but it was quite warm. Touched the thermostat house and it was VERY HOT!!.

Shut it off and restarted it and it ran fine.

I have never changed the thermostat

Water pump is not that old and I think since it seems to have god pressure that's not it.

So could it be the thermostat?

if not what could it be?

Thanks in Advance!

This was behind the thermostat, old mud, grass and black rubber from an impeller!

Remove the LU and backflush thru the thermostat housing. You might as well pull the impeller and check under the impeller housing for debris.
