"When I cold start, I get a single “Peep” the “Check Engine” Light Flashes Once, pauses, then Four (4) Quick Flashes.

This happens several times, for about five minutes, but then after Idling & warming up it goes away.

This happened the fist day I launched, but I ran the boat all morning & it ran fine.

Last year I was having difficulties with hard starting & rough idling, which I think was due to the introduction of E-10 Fuel (10% ethanol) in our state last year. The problem was really bad when the boat would sit for awhile between uses. I added a Racor 10-Micron fuel filter, & started using Star-Tron Enzyme Fuel Additive, & the problem seemed to go away. I also just put in a new battery.

What I would like to know is what does this check engine “code” mean? Also, what am I looking at for repair time/cost? Finally, the motor is running fine, so is this something that I can put off for awhile (our boating season is fairly short here in the North East!)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated; thanks."

"After talking with a couple of Suzuki Techs, a "1-4" check engine code is a "Cylinder Head Temperture Sensor" warning...

It is 99% likely that there is No mechanical problem, just a good sensor gone bad... Especially since I get the warning at cold start & it goes away AFTER warming up.

Techs say it could have been caused by an electrical surge/short, or maybe just salt corrosion

I think I cleared the code by a series of pulling OUT the dead-man switch & pusing IN on the key switch.

If the problem re-occurs, Itcould trigger a "fail-safe" mode, which would mean Limping Home at 18-hundred RMPs...

So, I have scheduled an appoint (everyone's currently backed up) to get hooked up to the computer to double check that all diagnostic systems are in order.

If in fact the Temp Sensor does need replacing, they said it's a quick & easy fix (but they didn't say cheap!)

Hopefully this will help out some other Shlub who searches the archive at a later date."
