My outboard lower unit was hit by a boat when it was docked. The cavitation plate was broken. Then the shifter began to get stiff and the boat was hard to start, throttle wouldn't work. Started the motor on muffs and the shifter will not move at all in forward or reverse. Can I shift in forward and reverse with the lower unit removed ? How can I test the shift rod ?
