2002 Merc 25 hp no vaccum

I have a 2002 25 hp merc. The guy I got it from said the head was cracked. My mech checked it out. It ran great. Took it home, it ran great 3 x out. Quit on me. Compression at 100lbs both cylinders, has spark, carb good. No suction to pull gas out of carb. Any ideas?

To start with 2 stroke or 4 stroke - the 2 stroke didn't have a "head".

If it's a 2 stroke, and the crankcase is not cracked, the lack of "suction" could be due to bad reeds, leaky seals on the intake covers and number of gasket (intake end of things) or even an improperly sealed block.

Similar issues on a 4 stroke...

So back to where we were - no "suction" in the crankcase.

So, your leading contenders are -

bad powerhead base gasket
bad intake cover seals
bad carb gasket
totally clogged carb (assuming the gas is even making it to the carb)
gummed up reeds
toasted crank seals
crankcase halves not sealed properly

I'm probably missing at least a half dozen "possibles".

Grab at least a Seloc's manual and start with the most (outward) component - which if the fuel feed is ok, would be the carb - pull it and see if you can detect crankcase vaccum with it removed - if you can't, pull the reeds - and keep on going....

Like I mentioned already,,,,the carb is clean. The gas doesnt make it past the carb. I placed tape over the intake after I removed the carb and no suction.
Thank you to the people who actuallly read my thread and offered good advice.
