2002 Mecury 30hp vro pump

I purchased a used 30 hp mecury last summer and have heard to many nightmare stories about the vro oil pump going out and ruining the motor. How/ what would I do to diconnect this pump and low oil alarm. The alarm is on a 3' long wire harness with the Key switch that you push in for the electronic choke.
Where is the alarm sensor located? I have peeked at the parts manual and nothing has popped out. I have to look some more I'm sure. Can I just disconnect the alarm itself and plug the oil line hose into the engine?
I would assume you would run a 50:1 oil mixture with a good quality 2 stroke oil. I alway add a little extra oil anyways and never had a problem.
THANKS for any info.

There is no such thing as a VRO pump on a mercury engine. That is OMCs version. What you are talking about is mercury's Autoblend system, but they stopped that in the early 80s so im assuming you just have a remote oil tank. There are very few things to disconnect on this system and its fairly simple to do. Just disconect the line and hose and premix at 50:1. you are correct in your thinking, however leave no oil lines un plugged because this will cause a lean condition and burn up the motor. I know this because ive done it. Good luck.

Well actually the newer 2 cylinder 30 HP motor does have an onoard oil tank to feed the pump.----------The pump is driven by the crankshaft.-------------Time to look things up on the net---- ( mercruiserparts.com ) ------ as all the info is there.

Thanks for the replies. This is a 2002 that has the oil tank on top of the motor. I have looked at the online parts and that is what I thought was the crankshaft turns the pump. Would I still just plug the lines and start mixing the oil wit hthe gas and how to disarm the alarm system that is located about 3 feet away on the remote key switch. I can't fine a actual wiring diagram. Only shows the wiring harnesses running. Thanks for the info

I believe you plug off lines from the tank.------------Leave a bit of oil in the tank to keep the alarm silenced.----------------------Mix gas and oil at 50:1 ---------Easy to convert back--------------That way if you want to sell it one day, you can promote it as oil injected for more $$$$$$$

agree with racerone. Ive done away with the whole system before and you have to fabricate a plate to block off where the oil pump driven gear goes into the crank. Easier re-sale.
