"OK so I winterized my boat but had a couple of questions.
I have a blue knob at the front of the engine that simply says water drain on it. Turn it and at the lowest point on the engine everything drains out. Great! Looked underneath and could not see any other drain plugs.
Filled large hose from therm/housing with RV antifreeze until it was running out the drain. Closed water valve and added another gallon of antifreeze. Also took small hose from same location and did the same.
You guys ever hear of these drains and does it drain everything? As far as I can tell it did but would like to be sure.
Also some of the hoses have crustys in them when you squeeze them, is this a problem will it block smaller passages in the block?
And while running it at the beginning I noticed that the port side manifold was cool to the touch but the starboard side got warm, still able to keep hand on it, temp gauge read 160. Is this normal or do I already have stuff blocked somewhere?

Cheers Norm"

I'd say you should pull you risers at least and investigate for corrosion deposits.

The single point drain system you have is supposed to drain all critical areas with just one drain valve.

But crusty's in the hoses is not good, and I would not trust that all critcal parts are drained for a second. If it was me I would remove each small hose from the block and manifold drains and make sure.

There is an amazing amount of water that drains from all the areas. It fills the bilge in my boat about half full when I forget to pull the hull plug before draining.

Rod the boat has seen saltwate

Rod the boat has seen saltwater a couple of years ago before I got it. Since then its been in Sherwood Park and fresh water. I certainly can remove hoses but what about stuff in the block. Is there a barrel of CLR or some marine equivalent a guy can run throught the engine. Not sure how you could even do that???

I have read on this site about some guys who have done acid flushes of the block, but it sounds kind of scary to me.

I would at least disconnect your drain hoses and make sure you get all the water out of all compartments. This will also show you if there is any significant amount of crud deposited anywhere that needs further attention.

"Sounds good Rod, I'll do

"Sounds good Rod, I'll do that, thanks for your help. Buy you a beer if I run in to you on the lake (I'm the guy with a blue bryant and a beer!...lol)

Cheers Norm"

"Can someone tell me what kind

"Can someone tell me what kind of tool you need to pull the drain plugs on the block. I'm sure they're brass, but I can't seem to figure out what size torx or star bit it takes to get it out.
It's a merc 4.3 T45 too big, T40 too small"

"Dennis;
Are you sure they are not an Allen head?
Most I have seen are a simple brass hex head plug that removes with a socket, but you may have something "more modern". Isn't progress wonderful?

"Those are for allen wrenches, I've seen that before. They look like torx because you can insert the allen key in several different positions, great for tight spaces! Took me awhile to fiqure that one out myself. Come in both metric and imperial."

"Sorry might have put the abov

"Sorry might have put the above on the wrong thread, we were talking about torx look alikes. Trouble with reading and writing between patients! I'll try and pay more attention ...
Cheers guys"

I'm guessing you picked this boat up in Edmonton late this year. Wondering if it's the one I looked at.

Could be ... the price was right and I had a line on a new trailer. It has worked wonderful with no issues. I spend hours on it cleaning every nook and cranny including the engine etc. though. Best thing I did right away though was insure it to the nines. If this engine or drivetrain goes for any reason its a $500.00 insurance claim. That was my only concern with a boat that has seen saltwater. So far though I've had zero problems.

"Sounds like the one, trailer

"Sounds like the one, trailer was done. Required a bit more work than I wanted to put into a boat. Hope you enjoy it, looked like it could be a very nice unit."
