The plastic plunger fitting on the gas tank for my 2002 40ELPTO broke off in the hose side of the connector. Unable to find a replacement part for the tank I decided to retrofit another tank I had from a Chrysler motor. I replaced the tank fitting with the appropriate Mercury fitting. Now the motor seems to be flooding and will not start unless I disconnect the hose from the motor and then start it. Of course it runs until the motor is out of gas. If I reconnect the tank while the motor is running it floods out again. Looking for insight and suggestions please.
