the trim on my 2001 yamaha 150 hp will not trim up on occasion. I hear a click when I try it. after pushing the switch a few times it does work them stops again. are there relays that can cause this? down does work ok.

If you hear a click the relay

If you hear a click the relay is working which also means switch is working. May be an intermittent pump issue.

"My 2005 115 2 stroke does the same thing. It will usually tilt down really easy but won't always trim back up. I always hear the relay click when i try to trim it. I think i might need to replace or top off the trim fluid, bit i havent figured out how to check the level of the trim fluid, and i dont know how often the trim fluid should be replaced."

I had a similar problem with my 115. The relay would click and it would make a very low noise at the motor. After purchasing a new motor and installing it I inspected the old motors wiring. When I was trying to remove the electrical wiring cover the white wire simply broke off half way. I noticed a hole in it and the wire badly corroded I mean black and green compared to copper color. . I'm certain that was the problem. So I would check that before getting a new motor.

Jiminschool your problem is probably low trim fluid I had the same issue after replacing the motor due to low fluid level. Put some in try it a few times. take the cap off slowly and put more in. Repeat until it starts working better.

NOPE

if you hear a click, that means your getting 12v to the relay!! That does not mean it is working!!!!!
