2001 searay 50 mercruiser newrebuilt engines

"290 sundancer 5.0 bravo3 1,300 hours needs engine pulled to have cylinder rebuilt. any advice on what to do...replace engine/or both with rebuilt/ or new engines from mercruiser complete package.. or just fix the one engine with a new short block or long block. with that many hours on the engine run in saltwater should i just replace everything and start new. also any info on the andvantage of the mpi5.0 over the tks 5.0 mercruiser engines?"

Is the engine Fresh Water Cooled or Raw Water? What was the reason given for the cylinder rebuild; water ingestion? What is the length of your boat?

If the 5.0 was RWC and money is not an issue then consider dropping in a new 350 MPI engine or go one step more and install a 383 MPI Stroker since you have a Bravo 3 OD. Make sure the new engine is FWC.

I would rather have 300+ HP under my control and just lumber along cruising and knowing the HP was there if I needed it than just 220 HP 5.0L working its tail off to drive the B3 OD."

"i vote the 383 mpi stroker, proven performance. MPI advantage is performance and better fuel management, better throttle responce. disadvantage more tech, more chance for problem, but also proven tech as MPI has now been around over 20+ years."
 
Replace the engine w/a complet

Replace the engine w/a complete drop-in engine that is Fresh Water Cooled--very important in saltwater. I'll send an email direct.

I did miss that point. I still would replace them both w/new or reman. drop-in FWC 5.7L engines in lieu of 5.0L. FWC engines!
