2001 optimax fault finding

so i [picked up a bit of a bargain today ita a benetau 5.70 flyer with 2001 150 hp v6 optimax 2 stroke outboard.

its been stood up for two years and just prior to it being stood up it was in a storm and ended up upside down. it was turn over and oiled up at the time but was found to have no spark and didnt run.

so im after a bit of help to fault find and get this thing running.

my first thought was to rule out the the controls, ive seen the cdi wiring bypass kits but at over 100 a little pricey for just one use.

is there anyway of trying to start the engine without the control box loom or a way of testing the loom to make sure its ok ??

im a back yard mechanic so will welcome any / all advice

Here is the bad news. If the engine was only oiled and not run under a load for a few hours to flash off all the moisture, You will be ripping the power head down for an inspection of the internal parts for rust.

Or you can ignore this advice and get it started and watch it come apart in an hour or so. Almost guaranteed.

Probably a good thing you can not get it running.
