I am flipping a pontoon with this motor on it. Took it all the way down to the plywood and replaced/reupholstered/painted everything. It was a 2000 Riviera RSL252 (Pontoon). Ive got the console back together and most of the wires connected. At first try, we used the same battery switch connections that were there before, and when switched to all, some of the wires near (cant remember what it was called, but a small box bolted to the engine with 4 or 5 wires coming into it, first word started with a c) heated up and blackened real bad, descent amount of smoke came out. We removed the battery switch, cleaned the connections and wired straight to the battery bypassing any switch, and re-connected the burned wires with new, clean connections. Now, we have all electronics working fine and the motor cranks strong, but will only fire and began to run with a little starter fluid, will not fire or run on its own. We emptied the gas tank, put new gas in it, and have good pressure on the hand pump thing in the line. The engine cranked and ran fine before we took everything apart. Also, there are two wires coming from the throttle that have not been connected to anything yet, we did replace the ignition switch, and the trim works from the throttle. It seems to me that there may be a kill switch or sensor somewhere that never got hooked up, or worst case, we may have fried something in that small box.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
