So my new (to me) 9.9 goes forward in reverse and reverse in forward. I did replace the impeller and disassembled the lower unit when I bought it so I could be my fault. But I read that when the shift shaft is up that should be forward gear and that is correct so I'm assuming it could be in the tiller handle? Any ideas on what would cause this.
Also, I believe when it is in forward gear it should allow the motor to pop up? And maybe even let you push down on the tiller handle to raise it out of the water but mine won't raise unless I reach back and flip the lever on the back of the motor. And, the tiller handle will always rotate up or down. I'm not sure if this is normal...
I bring my rib boat in through the waves with my kids and I really need the motor to pop up like my old Honda did when I hit the sand. Sometimes I miss the lever as I'm trying to turn off the motor before I get to the sand. Thanks-Griff
