2001 Merc 5.7L horn

I recently purchased a boat with a mercruiser 5.7L , the engine is a 2001 model 4312025N1. I took it out for the first time a few weeks ago and the first day it ran perfect no horns sounding. The second day the horn would make a single short beep when reaching 2500-3500 rpms. All fluids were topped off , oil pressure was around 35psi and temp stayed right around 160. I did not notice any performance issues when this was happening. From what I have read the warning system on these older mercruisers don't even have a single short beep and all alarms are a continuous beep or none. I dropped it off at the mechanic and they went thru the boat and couldn't find a single issue with the boat and couldn't replicate the problem. The mechanic also confirmed that this 5.7 is a basic carbureted model with a basic warning system (on or off horn and no multiple beeps) and no computer to check. So I am still trying to figure this out. Any input would be appreciated.

Three cause for "basic" alarm... lo/no oil pressure, high temp, low oil level in stern drive reservoir. If it turns out to be one of these three, find another mechanic.

Also... 160F is a bit warm if you are running in salt water

Running in fresh water. All fluid levels were checked per my post. 160 is warm? Every place I have looked says 160 is the normal running temp.

Gee I took my temp with a infra red gun and it said 98.6*.............I need to change my thermostat!!

If you hear the warning BEEP again and you can find the Oil pressure switch, gear oil level switch and the temp switch, you can disconnect or remove the wiring to a switch one at a time to determine which is causing the beep.

If none fix the beep then it is a wiring issue at the dash or a bad ground connection at the engine.

See picture.

Thanks I will check those out.

160F is normal for running in fresh or in salt if you have a heat exchanger on the engine a.k.a. "fresh water cooled".
