Just installed new CDI power pack and 2 new CDI coils to fix high speed misfire, took boat out boat ran great high speed misfire is gone and boat ran great. The next week took boat out it lost power, checked for spark and found that the lower coil has no spark on both lower cylinders. install one of the old coils that I replaced, now have spark and motor is running good. My question is did I have a coil that is defective or did the power pack burn out the coil ?? I think its odd that both sides of the coil went bad causing both lower cylinder to lose spark ? When I checked it I had RPM reading on wires coming from the power pack but no reading coming out of the plug wires. Can the power pack brun out the coils ?

thanks for the reply, I didn't think the power pack could burn out the coil I just wanted to make sure. If I got a defective CDI coil it doesn't give me much faith in CDI products, I sure hope I don't have problems with the CDI power pack !!! I just ordered 2 new OMC coils, now I am wondering if I should order an OMC power pack ?? Has anyone had problems with CDI products ? Does CDI make the power packs for OMC ?

Anything can happen when you manufacture something. Look at the air bags in the cars in this country. I've also heard the rumor that CDI is making coils for OMC but years ago I've gotten ignition components from OMC that were defective out of the box.

This is true, I've been and auto tech for 30 years and have had new parts right out of the box and not work or go bad in a short time. I was tring to save a couple bucks and go with CDI stuff in stead of getting OMC, just hope I made the right choice going with CDI.
