Gentlemen, I`m wondering.
I have a 2001 Johnson 50hp 2 stroke (J50PLSIB)

In my manual and on internet in different forums and on web sites I find info about oil in fuel, both mixture and type of oil to use in gasoline. I find also info about lower unit gear oil, how to check and replace. All this is ok.

BUT, what about engine oil to lubricate the engine ? What type and how to check? Any dipstick to check level? Where to drain? Not mentioned in any places I have searched. Pls help.

Thanks.

Unless you have a VRO oiling system for your engine you mix the oil with the gas at a 50:1 ratio and that takes care of lubricating the engine. 50:1 ratio is 2.56 ozs oil to one gallon of gas; make sure you buy 2 stroke oil with a TCW-3 listing.

There is no oil sump on the engine , therefor no dipstick.----Engine oil is introduced into the internal precision parts via the fuel.---There is also no drain for the engine oil.----You need to confirm if the automatic oiling system is still hooked up and working before you run this motor.---See a dealer if you have any doubt on what is going on with your 2 stroke engine.------I have seen many fine motors ruined by folks who simply did not know how to run a 2 stroke engine.

Thanks Will Bark and racerone, your input is perfect and ended my doubts.

You have both correct and to the point. Thanks.

My RIB have separate auto oiling system next to gasoline tank. I have also this tachometer with system check. No oil/temp/engine check/low oil. All 4 lit and unlit when engine have started. Then everything seems to be OK.

Bought it yesterday and are used to sailboat.............
