"Hi. My first post. My outboar

"Hi. My first post. My outboard has run fine till now. Yesterday I was idling out of the harbor and the engine showed a "check engine light" and died. Put it on the computer today and it is showing the above codes, which indicate a failure in the ignition primary circuit for cylinders 1, 2, 4, 5, 6. I checked the resistance on the primary circuit wires on J2 and all were .3 ohms and grounds were .2 to .3 (should all be less than 5 ohms.) Does this sound like time for a rebuild on the EMM? Thanks."

"It is extremely unlikely that

"It is extremely unlikely that all six coils failed at once. I'm not intimately familiar with the ignition setup on that motor, but I suspect it uses an open collector driver in the EMM. If that is the case, all the coil primaries would be connected to a common positive. This power could be fed through a fuse and/or relay.

The way to test would be to test for voltage on one terminal of the coil primary lead. The other terminal would be fired by the EMM pulling it to ground. I would suggest getting a manual that includes wiring diagrams. I suspect the common components would be obvious.

Even if I'm backwards and it uses SCR driven primaries on the positive, you are still looking for common connections. Check the power supply to the EMM. If the coils are grounded to the block, make sure the block is grounded to the EMM and battery negative."
