2001 90hp no oil alarm

i have a 2001 90hp that is giving me fits. i had a vro2 failure while on the lake. lots of excess smoke and the engine kept on dying. rebuilt the carbs, installed new plugs and replaced the vro2 pump. went to the lake the no oil alarm and light came on before i was away from the dock. returned home with no fishing done. with the flush ears hooked up the no oil light and alarm comes on after a couple minutes at 1500 rpm or at 2500 rpm. if i return to idle the light turns off. plenty of grey smoke at the prop. the oil priming bulb is rock hard. unhooked the oil line and the bulb pumps oil easily. what can i do to resolve this without breaking the bank? any help would be appreciated.
 
The excess smoke when the VRO originally failed would indicate that perhaps the gas side failed and the VRO was loading the carburetors up with oil. Did you drain the carburetors to get rid of any possible excess oil?

Did you prime that new VRO to dispel the air that might be in the line (as follows)?

When hooking up or installing a VRO whether it is a new or original VRO pump, it must be primed in order to dispel any air that might be in the oil line.


Have the Oil line attached to the engine fitting BUT detached from the VRO. Add a piece of fuel hose if necessary to the oil line so that it can be aimed into some sort of container.


Pump the oil primer bulb, catching the oil flowing out of the line into the container until you are absolutely sure that you have rid the oil line of every bit of air that might have been trapped there.


Now, connect the oil line to the VRO and secure it. When the oil line is secured, apply pressure to the oil primer bulb ONE TIME only. That's it.

thanks for the response. in fact i did prime the line after installing the new vro. i also replaced the power pac and optical sensor. is there a way to check the circuit for the alarm? i am afraid to operate the motor even tho i am pretty sure i am getting oil to the pump.
 
i am not sure how to operate this thread. i posted a reply joe but i am not sure it was in the right place so i will try this too. thanks for your response. yes i did clean and rebuild the carbs and i primed the oil line after installing the new vro. in addition i have replaced the power pac and the optical sensor. is there a way the alarm may be the problem? i am afraid to operate the motor even tho i am pretty sure i am getting oil to the pump. i could unhook the oil line again and check for air but the motor has idled for quite a while since i have been tinkering with it. (45min or so).

A faulty alarm? I retired 10 years before your engine existed so the design and circuitry is no doubt somewhat foreign to me. Bottom line..... whatever advice I might give on alarm testing would be guess work and I'd rather avoid that. Hopefully another member with absolute knowledge of that setup will jump in here to continue on.
