Hello just getting my boat ready for the season and wanted some advice.
last year I had an overheat alarm on my starboard engine.
i replaced with new oem Mercruiser: manifolds elbows, all water hoses, thermostat, water pump, flapper valves.
on my stbd Y pipe, half of the old flapper valve was missing.
i stuck my arm down the Y pipe as far as it would go and also looked into the transome assembly with the outdrive removed and could not find the missing flapper.
fast forward to yesterday’s first start of the year and I was watching the water flow exiting the bottom of the transom assembly while running on the muffs. I noticed that the water flow out of the stbd opening was not as much and sporadic compared to the port side.
when watching the water flow on the port motor, it was coming out of both sides equally.
I’m suspecting that my missing flapper valve may have gotten lodged in there and is partially blocking flow on the stbd opening .
does this sound like I’m on the right track and if so how can I get in there to inspect? (Really hoping this is not a remove the engine type of repair)
by the way; last season after the reheat and manifold replacement, etc. the boat ran great as always however I did notice that under hard running the temp would begin to creep up more than I recall it doing before the overheat. Perhaps that missing flapper is restricting flow?
