Howdy all, new to this site and to I/O Volvo's. I am looking at an 01' Glastron SX175 with the 3.0L Volvo. A good friend of mine has it and hasn't used it for a few years and I am thinking about getting it, but the block is cracked between the freeze plugs. My questions are actually a couple
( I have searched around here and still looking, but haven't found this info yet)
Is there a place to get bare blocks for the Volvo 3.0L, or rebuilt short blocks, or is there another engine that will mount in it's place with out many modifications. I am open to upgrading to a GM 4.3, Volvo 4.0L, and others, just worried about it mounting to the outdrive system. Would really like to find a short block since this one doesn't have but maybe 20 hours on it. Just wondering if the boat is worth spending $2k+ if the worst case is it needs a long block. I can get the boat pretty cheap... really torn. I would rather have a Bass boat, but this one before the crack block issue was a great deal.
I am a decent fabricator and not afraid of swapping or rebuilding the engine, have done that many times on Broncos, Mustangs, Camaro's etc.
So I am not skeered
Thanks for the info and tips,
Mike
