" well as a old timer of a 1972 johnson
25 h.p. owner who got burnt buying a lemon,
joe if you remeber a 1972 johnson 25rl72r
owned by mark you may rember,,,bought new one and having trouble already,,,
to any one who can help here we go,,,,,,
bought a brand new 2001 johnon 25 h.p.
short shaft tiller,,,,
ran great on the required hours on the double mixture of oil,,,,on the first hour of regular mixture when idleing started to run instantilly really ruff, ( flip a switch)
like a ignition or fuel problem,, upon tear down of the carb found nothing , ( i know its uder warranty) but did not want to get charged for water in the gas so i felt confident and the years
of experience of small engines of other types
and the carb looked almost the same as all the other years of this class,,,nothing there ,,
will run good on top end under load,,,will run good or idle when not in gear,,, will not idle or run right, shakes hard , surges itself and will not stay running when under a slow idle uder a load ( or in gear) starts o.k. when cold refuses to start when hot,,,,have to let it cool down
and choke it( or primer it) again to start it,,
so now at the dealer ship, was expectin to hear of a coil issue first, maybe fuel pump issue second,,
only to hear of a possibility of reed failure,,
con fused is to why i am posting why the reed failure? got the word that the reed failure might have been cause by exssevive prop r.p.m.;s or
other,,with bad service repenasation of there local o.m.c or bombairdare or who ever can help with warranty or technical support..its up in the air,,,,and i dont expect to have to pay the bill
or want to fight the warraty unless they prove beyond a reasonable dought that it was the cosumers fault, ( mine)any help with tech support such as a number,,,,reason for reed failure,,,
why it failed ,,,does it have the wrong prop installed on it??? it is a factory prop,,,,
i have not changed it,,, service bullitens on the reed failures maybe??? any thing would be help full thanks,,,,,,
