2001 150 hp opti no forward or reverse

I just replaced my water pump and did the plugs also. The motor started right up but now it wont go into forward or reverse. How do I know if my teleflex cables are bad? thanks

I think you are off a spline or three,drop lower unit again and have a look making sure that both motor and lower unit are in the same gear or neutral.

Put your shift control in neutral,grab the shift shaft in the lower unit with a vice grips and rotate it through the three clicks,the middle one is neutral and your prop will spin free in both directions.Push it on,you may need to get someone to jiggle the fly wheel a little to get the lower unit all the way in.

took lower unit off put in reverse and it all came together. Thanks for the help again
