"After a normal day on the wat

"After a normal day on the water headed for the dock,as usual I run at full throttle for a short run. Upon reaching the No-Wake buoy I dropped the throttle back and alarm sounded, first time ever. I shutdown engine, checked oil was ok and temp.appeared normal. Turned the key to restart alarm still sounding? Trailered without engine and went home. according to manual I have good water flow coming out the water pump indicator hole, alarm still sounds when you turn the key on a cold engine. Engine has always ran fine and never given trouble, I would like to assume its a sensor or filter issue but definitely not a marine engine tech. Any help appreciated, 2000 MODEL, 40HP MERC. Thanks, Terry"

"Terry, you only have two sens

"Terry, you only have two sensors there that will cause an alarm - the temp and oil level.

Oil level sensor is located near the bottom of the oil tank - look for the two wires with bullet connections. You can test resistance with an ohm meter.

If there is oil in the (jug) and you get near zero resistance between those two wires, the sensor is shot.

Ditto the temp sensor. Located left of the top cylinder - same thing - if it has zero resistance even cold, it's shot..."

The oil level sensor is known

The oil level sensor is known for false alarms. The tank usually has to be replaced because the float sinks.
