"After about 1/2 a day of fish

"After about 1/2 a day of fishing (running/fishing/trolling/running) buzzer alarm went off. I wasnt sure what it was,<new boat owner> I figured it was an alarm of somekind. Water from pee hole was strong as usual. Motor sounded fine. So we came on in at about 1/2 throttle. Stopped and fished on the way in and motor cranked and ran fine. Buzzer now stays on anytime ignition is in the on position. Will not go off. I have read today that it could be overheating, oil, or overspeed problems. Any suggestions? Im not a mechanic but can take things apart and get them back together. Help!
P.S. My third trip in boat: in april had carbs rebuilt, new water pump kit, new fuel pump, new starter, drained fuel tank, new water/oil seperator, new spark plugs (last week)."

Are you saying the alarm sounds with just the key on and the motor not running?
 
Yes it sounds now with the key

Yes it sounds now with the key turned on. Motor not yet cranked. It initially started when the motor was running.

"My first guess would be the oil sensor (assuming of course the oil tank actually has oil in it) or the alarm unit itself.

Look for the two wires going to the little oil tank under the hood and disconnect them (just bullet connectors a couple inches back from the tank itself).

If the alarm goes away, it's the oil level sensor."

"The oil tank is full now and was half-full when the alarm started. I read the repair manual. It said an oil problem would be signaled by a series of beeps from the buzzer, and that the solid buzzer sound was overheat problem. I also read that if i took black wire from overheat sensor and buzzer was still sounding it could be a faulty warning module. Im still not sure; Im waiting on a exhaust panel gasket to come in. Another problem i ran into over the weekend was that the fuel accelerator was hot to the touch when motor was off. I disconnected the wires going to it and it cooled off. plugged them back in and it warmed back up and drained my battery, i think. Could that be an ignition switch problem? I cant get key out of ignition, so im not sure if it is properly working. Man its a little frustrating."

"I'll do a bit of reading on your behalf. When you get phantoms in the electrical or sensor systems they can be tough to track down, especially since you could be dealing with unrelated issues.

It could be all related to a simple keyswitch problem, but I'm going to have to go over the electrical system in the service manual to see how everything is working together here before I can give you an opinion.

Give me a bit - maybe one of the others will stumble on this link and give you some insight - for me, this is a relatively "new" motor and I'm not totally up on all the latest/greatest things Merc has done to these larger motors..."

Did you mean the enrichment valve (which is wired), as near as I can tell your accelerator is operated by a linkage from the trottle and is not "powered" electrically."

Its the mechanism that "chokes" the motor when I push in on the ignition switch. I can hear it click when push in on the ignition switch.
