I have a 2000 mercury 40 hp 2 stroke and am having problems with the kill switches. I though it was the safety kill switch. Replaced it with a universal switch off of ebay. Didn’t seem to fix the problem. If I unhook the black w/ yellow stripe wire at the motor the motor will start but I can’t kill the motor with the ignition switch. Did I buy the wrong switch or is the ignition switch bad?
