2000 Mercury 225 EFI OT161716

Bit new to 2 cycle engines here... I bought the fuel pump rebuild kit for my engine. When I went to install it I noticed 1 of the diaphrams had 2 extra holes. The 2 diaphrams i removed from the original fuel pump had no holes. I put the diaphram with 2 holes in the outboard position. When I squeeze the primer bulb raw gas comes out the exhaust. Do I have the wrong kit? Should I have put the diaphram with holes in it inboard? I also replaced the fuel water seperator and after the fuel came out the exhaust I looked at the water separator and it had nearly no fuel in it.

You have the wrong kit. Did you use your engine SN to buy the kit?

The one with the holes is not being used anymore. That was used on 1980's motors that ran the oil line into the fuel pump.
