2000 Merc 90 2 Stroke

I have a 2000 Mercery 90 2 stroke that I have to turn over for up to five minutes before it will fire. Most times, it is much less, but from what I understand, it should at least fire much quicker, even if it doesn't crank. Once I get it cranked, it runs flawlessly for the rest of the day. I'm no mechanic, but I was wondering if there is something simple that I am missing. Bought the boat/motor in Feb., and it ran great when I tested it out. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Yes, and I've actually tried it a number of different ways. It seems that I always flood it when I pump the primer bulb, so I try it without pumping the primer bulb, and it still takes way too long to fire. I've tried just turning it over, raising the throttle, priming, not priming, choking, not choking, and every way imaginable. Like I said, once it runs great once it warms up. I thought I was just flooding it out every time, until I tried starting it without choking, etc. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do except take it to a shop.

If the primer bulb never gets pressurized and you're flooding your carb I would suspect that you have an inlet needle that is not fully closing the fuel inlet. Also, make sure to give your starter breaks when trying to get the engine going. If you exceed the duty cycle of the starter you can fry it.

Thanks fshn and Jake! I called the place I bought it, and they have offered to take a look for free. I'm sure once the work starts, the free will stop, though. I don't mind tearing into my '69 Chevy, but I have to admit, I'm a little intimidated by the boat motor.
