2000 Johnson 150 ocean pro VRO2?

I bought a boat with a 2000 150hp Johnson. Because the motor is 15 years old, should I replace the VRO2 pump and the associated hosing/clamps to a new one and keep the old one as a spare. This way I know I would have a new pump running, with new o rings, diaphragms, etc. Do oil tank maintenance, primer bulbs, etc. Eventhough the motor is running ok, I don't know the internal condition of this critical pump, if its on its last leg or not. I'm okay paying 400.0 for a pump every 4 or 5 years, instead of blowing the powerhead. Any feedback? Is this a good idea?

Or should I just disconnect it and run 50:1 mix?
The motor probably performs better with the VRO in operation.

if you are worried about the VRO. You can get a rebuild kit for your VRO on Maxrules.com. Alot cheaper than buying new pumps. Plenty of how to videos on you tube on rebuilding a VRO.....Super Easy. I've been using the VRO on my ole 88 Johny 150HP for 27 years and rebuilt it 3 times. Never had any issues. Premix if you dont trust the pump but Ive never had a problem. I inspect the pump about every other year and only rebuild when necessary. The new rebuild kits are ethanol safe.

I think the man is more worried about not oiling than pumping gas.

The rebuild kits you refer to only refurbish the fuel side of the pump.
They do nothing to fix or refurbish any problems with the oil side.

Yes Ive seen the pump kits, they are only the fuel side. Replacing the whole pump, would be the way to make sure all the pump parts are very healthy.
If your motor starts alarming"no oil" you only have seconds before severe damage occurs.

Yes rebuilding the pump, and or replacing it looks easy, purging etc. But I don't know the condition of the pump now as I just got the motor. It sounds like you have had your motor for years. You know the condition of everything, you're taking care of it.
