how much can be surface off the factory head with out the exhaust valve hitting or does it not come that close

Honda lists everything in metric.

The total the head can be shaved is .1 mm (.004") which is a pretty small hair and must not be distorted more than .05 mm (.0019") over it's surface.

That's the word from Honda.

And the clearance on the exhaust valves is .26-.30 mm (.010 - .012") if that help you any...

The clearance on the intake valves is .18-.22 mm (.007-.009").
