Hi Guys,

My outboard engine has suddenly started to run erratically and even cutting out on its last trip out. I don't have the diagnostic software so am not able to look the codes up. I took it to the local engine service guy and he doesn't have the software either so couldn't help me. Is there anywhere where I can get hold of the tools/software needed to interrogate the ECU and does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the problem.

Get on EBay and search for the software. There are guys in Europe that sell pirated copies, with cables, etc.
You have to be careful, some are rip-offs, but some actually provide a useable software package.
I think I got mine from a guy in Portugal. It came with a bunch of pirated Seloc manuals on PDF, too.

If this is not palatable to you, as I am sure it will stink to a bunch of ppl here, then you can optionally buy the latest version of the software from any Evinrude dealer.

Regarding your motor, at least do the minimum......compression test, spark test. Change the plugs, being sure to index them.
Post the numbers of the compression test, not just "compression was OK". Want to see numbers.

Where are you? I could check for codes for free if you are close to 32754, USA.

I'm in Manchester, England unfortunately, I guess that's a bit too far for you to travel. Don't suppose you'd remember the guys name that you got the software from ?

Nope. He's probably long gone....
Just looked up and found one from a guy in Monaco. Seems to sell a lot.
That 90 ought to get you here in a couple of weeks. Following seas and all......:D

Hmmm is this generic software or do i need to be looking for a specific part number..to be honest im not entirely sure what im looking for.

You should be sure to get one with the USB serial adapter that sometimes is included.
Ideally, the kit will contain the software, the USB serial adapter, the software drivers for the USB adapter, and the long serial cable to go from the engine to the PC.

I did not look closely at the contents of the kit link I just posted.

Thanks for the link, I have an idea now of what I'm looking for. Is the software worth having and is it useful in fault finding?

Yes it is virtually required. I could not work on a Ficht or ETec without it.
The link I sent you appears to be good stuff, and very reasonable in price. I think I paid upwards of 250 dollars for mine. Don't really remember.
I would buy from that link I sent you without hesitating.
